I break or cut wood panels into multiple pieces each painted & reconstructed. Often a hand carved sculptural element is inset or mounted on top of the painting or into a shallow shadow box. I paint each element using multiple translucent glazes. I use acrylic, ink, charcoal, wire, nails, powdered metals & acid on the work. The painted layers include words & drawings that are hidden within the painting. This technique creates a surface that can be appreciated on both the intellectual & visceral level.
